Luis F. Gomez

Luis first got into cycling as an undergraduate student commuting to university on a Specialized Sirrus (hybrid) bicycle. He soon realized that he could maneuver through LA traffic and get to class even faster on a proper drop bar road bike and jumped on a Specialized Allez. During grad school, he was very active (running and in the gym) and even competed in a handful of collegiate races with the USC Cycling Club. After finishing school in 2014, he moved up to the Bay Area and has been up here ever since.

A bike commuter at heart, Luis finally decided to ride with a club in 2019 and joined the LGBRC on some of their regular weekend rides. Since then, he has ridden and competed with the LGBRC except for a couple of years in between when he was on another local team. In 2025, he finally realized his greatest cycling achievement, which was upgrading to road Cat 3. He did so by implementing a little structure to his training, adopting healthier eating habits, and making a crucial repair to his commuter bike.

Luis enjoys competing in road races and especially criterium races. However, after an unfortunate spate of six surgeries on one knee that have limited the types of physical activities he can participate in, he considers himself very fortunate to simply be able to ride hard and compete alongside his LGBRC friends.
