Brian joined Los Gatos Bicycle Racing Club in 2024. He is a Category 4 racer who often joins the Saturday training ride. In addition to road riding, he has enjoyed mountain biking since the year 2000. He is a lifelong cyclist, but He adds, "I'm joining LGBRC in the hopes to execute some team tactics in racing. I also like Saturday sufferfests and LGBRC puts on some good rides." Brian is a veteran masters rider known for his deep commitment to the finer points of amateur bike racing. Over many seasons he has developed a particular specialty in the reverse breakaway, a bold tactical maneuver in which he decisively separates from the peloton while they ride away at high speed. His training philosophy blends discipline, experience, and consistency. Brian is especially known for key workouts with impressive dedication and reliability, carefully preserving his legs for the races where he will almost certainly need them.
Like many middle-aged men with disposable income and unfinished athletic dreams, Brian takes amateur bike racing far too seriously. Whether debating tire pressure, optimizing his aero position, or conducting detailed post-race analysis of tactical decisions that occurred several minutes ahead of him, he approaches the sport with professional levels of seriousness. He is also a proud participant in the long-standing cycling tradition of middle-aged men having strong opinions about very small things. Despite this, Brian remains committed to the craft, racing hard, learning slowly, and continuing to refine the reverse breakaway each season. |
