Patrick Sawrey
Patrick joined LGBRC in November, 2025.
We asked him how he first got into cycling.
He responded, "
When I was in high school my avid cyclist uncle gave me a cycling jersey and bibs which enticed me to ride the bike as an activity. Exploring and the sense of freedom was all I needed to fall in love."
"I've met some of my closest friends though the bike and my best days have been on a bike."
"In my undergrad, I was racing when I could balance it with academic demands and had planned a trip to Durango, Colorado to race the Iron Horse Bicycle Classic after my finals. About a month before, I had a large crash in a road race and dislocated my shoulder. I was off the bike for a week, then only on the trainer for two weeks following that."
"Amongst recovery were the stresses of finals. Directly after was the Iron Horse Bicycle Classic and I had none of the fitness which I had hoped to bring to that event. I ended up having a fantastic day on the bike and took second. Although I didn't win, I'm most proud of this race result because of all the difficulties I faced leading into the event and how I persevered.
We asked him what he does in addition to cycling. He responded, "
I am a Mechanical Engineer working in the semiconductor industry and pursuing my masters currently as well."
"
I've been able to connect my passion for engineering along with my passion for cycling in some projects and I'm always excited to talk about the engineering and optimization in cycling."
